What are affirmations?

Affirmations are words or sentences that you repeat to yourself over and over again. When you do affirmations, you are teaching your brain a new way to think.

The continued repetition of certain thoughts over time has been proven to change your brain, your cells, and even your genes, which is done via neuroplasticity.

It changes what your brain processes on your behalf, leading you to see different things and have other thoughts until the landscape changes so much that you get what it is you affirmed.

It fires up your neural pathways and makes changes to those areas of the brain that makes you happy and positive.

Everybody’s choice of words, length, and tone of an affirmation are unique. So, instead of simply repeating an affirmation that you found on the internet it is far more effective when you create your affirmation.

In other words, you create positive statements that help you to overcome negative thoughts and beliefs. When you repeat them often and believe in them, you start to make positive changes.

You might consider affirmations to be “wishful thinking.” But look at positive affirmations this way: many of us do repetitive exercises to improve our physical health, and affirmations are like exercises for our minds. These positive mental repetitions reprogram our thinking patterns so that, over time, we begin to think – and act – differently.
